Kgaswe School twins a school, a mutually beneficial community outreach project, in the rural village of Mahalapitsa in the Tswapong Hills, 40 km south of Palapye. Kgaswe supports Mahalapitsa which has over 200 pupils, with staff development, equipment and pupils interaction.
Interaction between staff and pupils of both schools enables the sharing of expertise in the educational field. The aim of the association is to assist with the upliftment of the school and the Mahalapitsa community and to enable Kgaswe to learn about aspects of rural life and traditional culture and values it would not ordinarily come across in its town environment.
The unifying vision of the African idiom Ubuntu Ngumuntu Ngabantu – “I am because you are: a person is a person through other people” is the essence of “making the difference”. We co-exist with others, we live in community; we listen, we hear, we care.
We believe that children need to understand where they fit into the greater scheme of things and that it is necessary to engage with the world out there, because we can, each and every one of us, contribute to the well-being of the community around us.
