Kgaswe School
An independent day school for boys and girls from Pre-Primary to High-School.
Junior-Primary

At the age of five and a half to six years the children enter the junior classes of the primary school. The class teacher continues to provide the attention and encouragement necessary for each pupil’s personal development.

During the next three years children are gradually introduced to specialist subjects. Close attention is paid to fluent reading, writing and to essential practical and numerical skills as well as computer skills and basic technology.

At this stage the involvement in music, art, drama, games and PE play an important part in the growth and development of the child.

Theme teaching

The Junior Primary often base their teaching around themes.

These themes meaningfully integrate all aspects of learning into a personalised programme that and enables the children to practically apply all the numeracy and literacy skills learned in a meaningful activity.

Theme teaching integrates basic disciplines like reading, maths, and science with the exploration of a broad subject, such as communities, animals, winter, the use of energy, and so on.
Theme teaching is based on the idea that people acquire knowledge best when learning in the context of a coherent "whole," and when they can connect what they're learning to the real world.

Some themes include, pirates, Easter, winter, books, to mention a few.
