Kgaswe School
An independent day school for boys and girls from Pre-Primary to High-School.
History

Kgaswe School is an independent day school for boys and girls from Pre-school to High School. Kgaswe School was founded in 1986 with 5 students in a garage of its only teacher, and headmistress, Mrs. Gill, in the BPC Village in Palapye. The parents were all employees of Botswana Power Corporation who had opened up Morupule Power Station near to the town of Palapye. It served the need of expatriate employees’ children who had no English Medium school to attend. It registered with the Ministry of Education and soon outgrew the garage and moved to its present location adjacent to the Morupule Power Station. The present administration block was all the school initially consisted of.

In 1990 Mr. Keith Milford took over as headmaster and the school grew steadily from then on, running under the administration of the Botswana Power Corporation. Mr. Roger Buckley arrived at Kgaswe in 1994 as the new Principal and in 1995 the school was formed into a non-profit company controlled by a Board of Governors. This was done with the view to the school eventually becoming totally independent. Kgaswe Primary started to grow quite quickly. A Nursery School section was opened in 1996. By this time it was decided to open up a second class in each standard. This meant that more new classrooms would have to be built. A new Standard 1 block was erected early in 1997. Also during this time, sporting facilities began to spring up on the school grounds. A grass field 120 m X 80 m was laid, two tennis courts two netball courts were built.

In 1998 Mr. Philip Hess took over the reigns of the school. The next few years saw continued growth with a total of 11 new classrooms built in a period of 10 years.

The school finally became independent from the Botswana Power Corporation in 2006. The school now caters for the needs of pupils in the Palapye, Serowe and Mahalapye districts looking for a top class English Medium education for their children. A high school opened in January 2006 and offers the Cambridge International Examinations. Kgaswe now has an enrolment of close to 400 pupils and boasts excellent academic and sporting facilities and a dedicated staff of fully qualified, experienced teachers, proficient in the English language.

The school is a member of the Conference of Heads of Private Schools of Botswana (CHOPS) and the Independent School’s Association of Southern Africa (ISASA).

We aim to provide a sound education and a balanced curriculum within a purposeful environment. Each student is encouraged to develop self-confidence and to assume responsibility for themselves and others. Throughout their years at Kgaswe we expect all students will benefit from their experiences and acquire the necessary skills for successful transfer to tertiary education and on into adult life.
